WEBSITE

The website that I would like to share with you today is called Recycle Bank.  At RecycleBank.com, you are rewarded for green action.  You get  points and you can use those points to get money saving coupons, magazine subscriptions, gift cards (like Best Buy and Walmart), discounts for online shopping and more.  It is a great way to go greener, learn and save.

RECIPE

Ribs are the big sale item this week at Albertsons and Fry's.  Here is an easy and tasty rib rub recipe that works well on the grill or when baked in the oven.  Country musician Zac Brown recommends turning your ribs frequently and keeping the top side moist by spritzing it with water or apple juice.  Give it a try.

Made To Crave - Study Day One - Introduction

Philippians 4:3
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

For the next several weeks, I will be studying the book "Made To Crave" by Lysa TerKeurst.  I would love it if you joined me, because I can use all the encouragement and accountability that I can get. If you would like to join me but do not have the book, you can start with the Introduction available here.

Today is my week one, and I am clinging to Lysa's word of the week EMPOWERED. You can click on the word to take you to a refrigerator print out which I am definitely going to use.  We are children of God, and He has empowered us with the strength we need in the tough times.  The first week is possibly going to be the hardest, but it is time to replace preoccupation with food appearance to total submission to His will.  I am so ready.

Through reading the introduction, I realize that I really need to bring this battle to the Lord.  I have not really done that.  I wanted to lose weight, but I didn't really want to change, and I certainly didn't want to ask God for His help.  And to me that is the funniest thing.  In so many aspects of my life, I have been and am able to reach out to God, and ask Him for His help, but with food, I have not wanted to bring God into the battle even though He has helped me with so many other battles and desires in my life.  This is the biggest signal to me that I need to make changes and that not only will I need to battle with my flesh but this is also a spiritual battle.

So today I will focus on this verse from the introduction:

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." Mark 8:34

(Pretty much working on denying me here like Lysa says in the Introduction)
My game plan today and the next few days is to simply ask for God to give me the strength that I need today.

Today's favorite website is Recipe.com.  I love to go there when I know of a few ingredients that I have on hand, but I'm not sure what to do with them.  Recipe.com can also clue you in to what is on sale in your recipe list.  Love that!

And for recipes this week, there is a great recipe for Roast Chicken with Two Lemons from Marcella Hazan that will work perfectly with the whole chicken sale at Fry's and with the leftovers you can also make this yummy Garlic Chicken Lettuce Wraps recipe (PS I don't use butter lettuce any lettuce on sale will do).  Don't forget that you can also make (and freeze for later) your own soup stock by cooking the chicken carcass all day in the crock pot on low just fill the crock pot a bit less than half way with water and add the carcass.

Book Review - Murder of a Small Town Honey: A Scumble River Mystery

*Amazon associate link.

BOOK REVIEW

I have recently become a serious fan of Cozy mysteries.  I always liked them, but lately it has become WAY  more than like.  Truly when looking for a read I like to look their first. They are fun, usually fairly clean, and most of the time you run into the body AFTER the deed. I have been reading so many that I decided it would be nice to review them.  First...Murder of a Small Town Honey by Denise Swanson.

Murder of a Small Town Honey by
Denise Swanson

Description from Amazon:

Advance praise for Murder of a Small Town Honey:"A delightful mystery that bounces along with gently wry humor and jaunty twists and turns." --Earlene FowlerWhen Skye Denison left Scumble River years ago, she swore she'd never return. But after a bout with her boyfriend and credit card rejection, she's back to home sweet--homicide....
My Review:
What a wonderful beginning to a Cozy mystery series!  Skye Denison has moved back to her hometown after leaving upon her high school graduation 12 years prior with a serious "I'm-better-than-this-town attitude."  Skye never expected to go back, but after a break up, loss of job and serious financial woes...there really is no better place for her to get back up on her feet.  And that is all Skye has in mind when she returns home.  She wants to put some work in, save some cash, and head right back out of Scumble River.  Stumbling on a corpse sparks a change in Skye's short term plans.

As Skye works on trying to find out more about the victim and solve the crime, the reader gets to enjoy small town life.  There are quite a few people who aren't too keen on Skye any more, but plenty who are happy to see her back.  Pretty much what you would expect out of people who really grow up and grow with you and then without you.  It was also interesting watching her take on a job as a school psychologist, and that part totally gave me a new respect for the position.

The mystery was perfect for me.  I have read a lot of mysteries in my life (mostly thrillers), and I am always happiest when I do not immediately figure it out.  Murder of a Small-Town Honey also had the benefit of that the author didn't throw anyone so far into the limelight that you were sure it had to be them and then pull someone out of a hat that couldn't have possibly been involved.  I hate when authors do that.  It all tied up in a way that made sense.

All in all this foray into mystery and a small town made me want to come back.  I enjoyed Skye and her whole family.  It was nice reading about a character who is not described as absolutely stunning.  Skye is a character you can relate to, because we have all pretty much stuck our foot in out mouths at some point and had to deal with the ramifications.  And most of us aren't a size 2.  The town sounds terribly small with everyone knowing everyone else, but living in a smallish town myself, I can definitely see how that can be.  It is something I may have found ridiculous several years ago.  I so looked forward to learning more, I quickly ordered the next book in the series.  Which I will review soon.

I received this book through PaperBackSwap.  I actually had no prior knowledge of the author, but the title grabbed me.

WEBSITE

Did you know that with many stores if you buy an item and it goes on sale shortly thereafter, you can get the difference back?  I didn't discover this until I was in my teens and my aunt would take me shopping after Christmas.  She would take me to lots of stores with our receipts and get the difference back.  With technology, there is an easy way to keep track of your purchases and changes in price.  Check out Eyeona.com.  Snap a picture of your receipt after you make a purchase.  If the price drops, Eyeona.com will send you instructions on how to get back the difference.  Check out their website and app details at the link below.  And yes...it is free.

REWARDS

I have shared before how much I like My Coke Rewards and how I turn in our codes to get free magazine subscriptions.  And right now My Coke Rewards has a great reward if you enter five codes off of any participating product between 8/1 through 8/31, you can get a free 8x8 photobook from Shutterfly (the code for the album must be redeemed by 9/27 but it is a $29.99 value!).  Well recently I started eating Lean Cuisine for lunch and I discovered that they have a reward program too!  They have offered everything from aprons to gift cards.  And each code you give is worth 20 points.  Check out the details for both rewards programs at the links below.
