Full Description
"Our lives are so filled with junk from the past-from dried up tubes of glue to old grudges-that it's a wonder we can get up in the morning," exclaims motivator, best-selling author, columnist, and life coach Gail Blanke.
"If you want to grow, you gotta let go," is Blanke's mantra; and that means eliminating all the clutter-physical and emotional-that holds you back, weighs you down, or just makes you feel bad about yourself.
In THROW OUT FIFTY THINGS she takes us through each room of the house-from the attic to the garage-and even to the far reaches of our minds. Through poignant and humorous stories, she inspires us to get rid of the "life plaque" we've allowed to build-up there.
That junk drawer (you know that drawer) in the kitchen? Empty it!
Those old regrets? Throw 'em out!
That make-up from your "old" look? Toss it!
That relationship that depresses you? Dump it!
Once you've hit fifty-you'll be surprised how easy it is to get there-and once you've thrown out that too-tight belt and too-small view of yourself, you'll be ready to step out into the clearing and into the next, and greatest, segment of your life.
I was thinking that before I literally HIT 50, I should learn how to do this. I am a pack rat from way back. I can do it when I have to, but I have noticed that the only times I really do a major overhaul is when I am moving. :) My husband literally got a gleam in his eyes when I showed him this book. He knows how I am all too well. In the next few weeks I am going to tackle this book and the clutter in my life and home! I will be posting some pictures of my triumph. :) So how about you? Want to get in on some Spring Clearing?

Hi, I so could benefit from this book! We have lived in our home for 5 years and I still have boxes filled with "stuff" from out basement up to the second floor.
There are hardly any pictures hanging on the walls in any of
the rooms. I know that going through and getting rid of many items would help me physically and mentally.
Please add my name to your book
drawing. Many thanks.....Cindi
jchoppes[at]hotmail[dot]com
I have 2 sacks of newspapers that could go to the recyclers.
I would have to say clothes. I have so many clothes that either I don't wear or don't fit anymore and I still have them.

Books, I need to get rid of all those college books I have been carting around for 10 years. They are still boxed up from the last move. Really? Am I ever going to look at the old psychology book again? Probably not...but they make me feel smart on the bookshelf.
katy@trappedintheoffice.com
Shoes! I love shoes, but I really could get rid of at least 10 pair!!! (sad, isn't it?)
I have a big rubber band ball that lives in my kitchen junk drawer. I add all of the rubber bands that I get with the mail and such to it thinking that I'll always have a rubber band when I need one. I haven't needed more than five rubber bands in the past three or four months. So, I'm thinking the ever growing rubber band ball, which is in danger of causing my junk drawer to having closing issues, could easily go.

Let's see, one thing I wish I could get rid of right now? All hubbys electronics he's working on. Oh no wait, something of MINE I would get rid of first I would have to say my anger at stupid people, I know they probably can't help it. Next, the million pairs of crappy shoes I hold on to for no reason.
lastnerve2000@gmail.com is my email address, I commented above.
Random bits of paper...expired coupons, recipes, notes to myself...they can all go (if I had the strength, that is)

If I were to get rid of something RIGHT NOW, it would be all these clothes in the back of my van! I am determined to "sell" them at a consignment shop but I am having a hard time getting to the place because of weird hours. I should just take them all to goodwill! I also have soccer things and a backpack! haha.

Ooh, this looks like a great book for me to leave lying around for my husband to pick up. Ever since I got pregnant (over 3 years ago), I have been trying to get rid of everything that I can...but I'm still not very good at it!
Right now I would give away the maternity clothes that I wore then. They were all hand-me-downs from the 80s and godawfully ugly. If we get pregnant again soon like I hope we do, I really don't want to have to revisit them...so why have I been keeping them? Hm...
susanbaranow (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Ha. My husband and I are both pack rats - we could really stand to throw a few things out.
I would like to throw out our slightly dog-chewed old couch, but then we'd have to get a new one (or sit on the floor).
I could definitely throw out some of the stacks of paperbacks I've finished and will never read again! Well, take to a used bookstore or donate more than throw out.

This might be cheating but in November I bagged and boxed up 5 containers of books to donate, and they are still sitting in my dining room. I really need to take them to the library, problem is now I'll want to go back thru and reread them all. NO NO NO the boxes and bags must remain sealed.
PS there are another 4 boxes to go in my basement.LOL
If you saw my basement, you'd understand how badly I need this book.
I would finally recycle all the cans my hubby has saved in the garage.

OMG, I need this book! LOL. One thing in the myriad of things to get rid of. I have a closet full of sweaters, so I know there's at least one I can toss. And there's a drawer full of VHS tapes I know I won't watch anymore, so at least one of those can go, but I'm willing to bet I come up with at least a bagful of sweaters and tapes!
Old clothes. Not sure why I am hanging on to them.
I could get rid of old magazines.

I have a few monthly magazine subscriptions that cause lots of magazines to pile up and I should probably be getting rid of at least some of them!

The first thing I could get rid of is my old printer that no longer works. Why am I keeping it?
I am getting a new printer, so I could get rid of the old one.

As a matter of fact, just yesterday I got rid of all 74 books I was so proud of paying $5 for several years ago at a book sale. If I haven't read them by now, I never will. I also just got rid of all the magazines I'm going to read "someday", and threw away all the old makeup and expired medicines that have been cluttering up my bathroom.
But if there's one thing I should get rid of now, it's the thing that makes curly french fries. It only works if you have REALLY solid potatoes - I keep thinking that there's a knack to it and I just need to learn it.
I want Kakihara's breadmaker!! I use mine every few days - couldn't live without it. Would like another one so when company is here, I can make more.
