WEBSITE

With Christmas coming, I thought now would be a good idea to cover website portals.  A website portal is basically a site that pays you back for shopping through their site.  If you plan to do any holiday shopping over the Christmas season, you should definitely consider going through a portal.  There are lots of different portals that will give you varied amounts of cash back when you  go through them to the site you are going to shop at.  Because there are so many,
it can be hard to find the one that is going to give you the best bang for your buck which is why you should totally check out RewardsDB.com.  When you are planning to shop at a certain store, go to RewardsDB.com, enter the store in the search bar and it will show you the portal with the best deal.  If you aren't sure what store to shop at, I suggest checking out eBates.com where you can look up items and find the stores that sell the.  Then head over to RewardsDB.com for your search.

RECIPES

With pumpkins for sale EVERYWHERE, you simply must take advantage of the healthy benefits of pumpkin seeds and make some of your own.  Also if you know anyone who will be doing lots of pumpkin carving (my youth group used to have a big pumpkin carving night), you might want to see if you can get your hands on the seeds.  Once you do, I've got a simple recipe for you.  Toasting pumpkin seeds is also a really nice family activity to do together.  I learned how to toast seeds before I knew how to cook much more than ramen noodles.

1- Rinse clean two cups of pumpkin seeds (or whatever you have).  Leave on a brown paper bag to dry overnight.

2- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper (not necessary but clean up is a breeze).

3- Lightly drizzle pumpkin seeds with olive oil and then toss with sea salt (you can add more spices if you like).

4- Spread seeds onto lined baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes stirring the seeds occasionally (I stir about every 10 minutes.  Bake until lightly toasted.

Simple right?  You can switch this up with a few other recipes I located like TOASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS WITH SUGAR AND SPICE, MARYLAND PUMPKIN SEEDS, and SPICED MAPLE PUMPKIN SEEDS

Oh and how can you cook that Brisket that is on sale at Fry's?  Try this recipe from the Pioneer Woman

FUN FOR THE KIDS

THRIFTY STORAGE TIP

Keep your tall boots looking good this season by keeping rolled up magazines in them.  This will keep them tall and not slumpy which will help them stay nice longer.

Thrifty Tips For October 11, 2012

PRETTY COOL TREAT
Recently I stumbled on a super cool tip, making dipping caramel out of sweetened condensed milk.  Here's what you do.  Take a can of sweetened condensed milk (remove the label) and put in a large pot of water completely covering the can.  Bring the water to a boil and let boil for 3 to 3.5 hours continually keeping the cans fully covered (I keep another pan of water on hand and boil it up to keep adding to the larger pot).  Let the cans cool over night.  When you are ready to enjoy, open up the can and stir the mixture up well.  I like to buy the kind with a pull top because they are easier to open.  You can keep these cans in the fridge for months and even label them all cute for gift baskets. PS - I have also read that you can do this in a crock pot if you foil the pot on the inside first, again cover the cans with water and let it cook for at least six hours to overnight on low.  I haven't tried that...YET.  :)
