Meet Me On Monday - 11/29

It is another fine day to enjoy a little quiz time with the blog hop created by Java of Never Growing Old. In this especially hairy time, this is definitely my time to chill. Come along and join in by clicking on the pic below. :) But hey! Before you do, maybe you can drop a comment by here. :)

Questions:

1. What is your favorite way to eat chicken?
2. Have you decorated for Christmas yet?
3. What is your favorite article of clothing?
4. Do you pay your bills online or write checks the old way?
5. Do you make Christmas cookies?

My Answers:

1. What is your favorite way to eat chicken?

Ahhhh my favorite way to eat chicken. There are so many ways. We eat a lot of chicken. I would say that my favorite way is to make a big green salad, panko bread the chicken, and dip it into a mixture of Frank's hot sauce and a dollup of blue cheese on the side. Sounds so good I am already getting hungry again. Not a good thing at this hour, but I'll go with it.

2. Have you decorated for Christmas yet?

Photobucket

Nope. I barely got myself through Thanksgiving. I will forever admire people who decorate the weekend after their nice Thanksgiving dinner. I don't know how these people have things so together. Myself, I am hoping to get it done next weekend, but don't count on it.

3. What is your favorite article of clothing?

Cats. Pictures, Images and Photos

Last week when I couldn't find a picture that worked for me, I found a picture that made me smile. This is that picture. I actually have a pic of me in my plaid flannel, but it is on my husband's computer, and I am not going to wake him up so I can get it by networking up. Besides if you have seen one plaid shirt, you have basically seen them all. OH GREAT. I just answered the question here. NOT what I meant to do. Pretend I didn't and keep reading.

My favorite article of clothing is a blue plaid flannel shirt I bought at a thrift store when I was in college. I have worn that thing with everything, and amazingly it still is in pretty good shape (there is a little tear on the cuff, that my thumb slips through on occasion but that is it). It is super soft and totally comfy.

4. Do you pay your bills online or write checks the old way?

Photobucket

I write the occasional check. My husband takes care of bill paying online for the most part other than the payment for one car. I know how and what to pay if necessary, but thankfully it is not. I give my husband money and he does the rest.

5. Do you make Christmas cookies?

I love making Christmas cookies, but other than sugar cookies, I don't make them any more. I am a fudge maker during the holidays. When I lived in Rhode Island, I worked for a dental practice and the women in the office would have a cookie exchange. It was THE best!

Sometimes A Forward Is So Good....

I am one of those people who does not pass along a lot of forwards. I get quite a few, and I am more than happy to read them. I will probably not pass most along. This one was one that I couldn't resist though. I couldn't resist because it made me think, and I think in the long run, it will also make me a better person.

TWO WOLVES

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

"One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

"The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

I am not a person who walks around enraged, but there are definitely times when I get annoyed and probably feed that rougher side of myself. This little forward is helping me keep things a little more in perspective when I feel like popping off. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

It is Thursday morning, and I am about to embark on some cooking wizardry! I barely typed that without laughing out loud! The only thing that kept me from cracking up is my hope to not wig out my husband.

Five things I am thankful for (don't expect any mush here I am just thankful):

My amazing husband. He has made my life complete, happy, and fun. He is enough to get me completely but also different enough to make life interesting.

My home. My husband has put a comfortable roof over our head. Not too big and not too small (though a second bathroom would be convenient). We are blessed to have our own space.

My fabulous son, Alexander who does most of his chores without being nagged too much. He also shares my absolute oddball sense of humor and gets and tells jokes that many adults don't even get. He is also not ashamed to say I love you.

My job. I am fortunate to have a job in a time when many people do not. I am also thankful that I work in a pretty fun atmosphere with great people. Actually I am fortunate in that EVERY job I have had has been with some amazing people. :)

My football team is playing today! I get to watch it. My team is the New England Patriots, and when you live in Arizona getting the chance to actually watch your team is definitely hit or miss when they are an East team. :)

Meet Me on Monday - 11/22

I don't know about you, but the very idea that Thanksgiving is this week is giving me tremors! I have got to get all my ducks in a row so I can get a good dinner on the table on Thursday. On the good side, we are taking it VERY easy and enjoying time just with each other.

Enjoying some Meet Me On Monday time will be a blessing really. A little escape while I get to know more details about my fellow bloggers.

Have you joined along? It really is fun and is organized by dear Java of Never Growing Old.
Are you interested in learning a little bit more about your fellow bloggers? Haven't you wanted to just share some silly little tidbits about yourself? Then come join the fun! You just might find a new best blogging friend!

Questions:

1. How many pillows do you sleep with?
2. Where will you eat on Thanksgiving?
3. Would you rather go to a party or host a party?
4. How many purses (for the guys..wallets) do you own?
5. What is your favorite kind of seafood?

1. How many pillows do you sleep with?

Kind of an odd pillow isn't it? I don't use a pillow like this. But it was just so interesting. Well, that and creepy. But the guy is obviously enjoying a snooze and not being some kind of twisted pervo.

Myself. I use one pillow. It is kind of funny, because I have always liked a bed covered in pillows because it looks so pretty. By the time I am hitting the sheets, I just use one. Just a plain but very soft and puffy pillow which I ball up and kind of hug. I do have two for sleeping, but I use the one to sleep and two if I am reading in bed.

2. Where will you eat on Thanksgiving?

Photobucket

It is all on me. We will be eating at home. It will be just my hubby, son and me. This suits me fine, because in a few weeks, we will be heading to Lake Havasu to celebrate an early Christmas with our family.

3. Would you rather go to a party or host a party?

Photobucket

Hands down I would rather go to a party. I have hosted parties in the past, and I am so jammed up with working and making things nice that I don't get to enjoy it. I would much rather go to a party and relax and have fun although I always help with clean up.

4. How many purses (for the guys..wallets) do you own?

Space Cat One Pictures, Images and Photos

Nine. I don't have anything fancy. I just have purses that will go with what I need them to go with, and one leather one that I can use for every day. Oh, and the picture has nothing to do with anything at all. It just made me laugh. I'm random sometimes.

5. What is your favorite kind of seafood?

Fish Tacos! Pictures, Images and Photos

Whatever I can make fish tacos with. Tilapia, halibut, cod. Seriously whatever. I also like shrimp. The one seafood I don't like is lobster. Lord knows I have tried. I lived in Rhode Island and Maine for a long time and everyone always told me that I would love THEIR lobster. Never worked out. I will eat it, but it isn't a fave or something I pick. It is just something I will eat if it is being served. Does that make sense? Why am I even expounding on this. I already answered the question fairly simply. Must be because it is late, and I get punchy when I am up late. :)

Have a great week! Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Is Coming

Christmas is coming and I am having a hard time. I can go shopping any day of the week when it isn't the holiday season, and have a horrible time finding anything that I like. When it is time to Christmas shop for everyone else...BAM everything appeals to me! I'll be like"That is sooo cool! I would love this video game! I must have that book! This sweater looks amazing!" Oh it is soooo very hard. Of course my budget requires that I ignore that inner "Me!!!!Me!!!!" voice and concentrate on GIVING and not receiving.

To combat my "Me Me" I am making my list and checking it twice. I am working with my family on doing a White Elephant Christmas which will definitely be good for my budget. Winning something really awesome would be a real boon too. I have attempted some awesome giveaways, and like so many bloggers and blog readers out there, I am crossing my fingers and believing for something really cool. Here is one of those pretty rockin items that I would like to win. I do want to actually win it for my son though. Today I entered Crissy’s Can’t Wait til Christmas Lenovo Laptop Giveaway and hope to win a $799.00 IdeaPad!

I entered for my husband. He bought me a laptop two years ago, and I just love it. He still messes with his desk top which doesn't stink, but when I saw the features that this Lenovo laptop had, I was pretty thrilled, and it literally screamed my adorable hubby's name. :) Head on over to Dear Crissy for a chance today. :) We can all dream for a bit! :)

Some Thifty Thanksgiving Tips & More

Most people who have been by here a bit know that I post a weekly blog at my radio station in addition to doing a little on-air time talking about freebies, money saving, and whatnot. This is a post from today. Next week I wont be on air as I will be celebrating Thanksgiving! Yay! I cannot wait to eat some turkey and stuffing!

What might look odd to you.

There are some free Thanksgiving Dinners listed here that are in my area in Arizona. Also I mention Goodsearch.com. We have been really blessed by our listeners who have taken the time to use this website to search. We get a penny a search! Pretty awesome! Of course lots of people search with Swagbucks now. I do too (I've earned 30 $5 Amazon gift cards so far and been blessed with some referrals) , but I always do some searching through Goodsearch.com to benefit the station as well. :)

If you have a minute, you might want to check out my station too. You can listen online. :)

Radio Shine

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! And I thought it would be a good idea to go over some nice Thanksgiving tips. First of all, no matter how you slice it and how many people are over for Thanksgiving, there are always leftovers sooooo I thought it might be a good idea to give some ideas on what to do with those leftovers so nothing gets wasted. In fact, even if you are going to someone else's home for Thanksgiving, you should take advantage of the awesome prices for turkey right now and make one of your own at a later date.

After the meal is through get all the meat off of that turkey carcass. You can easily freeze left over turkey by separating it into cup sizes, wrapping it up in foil and then putting it in a freezer bag.
You can put the carcass in the freezer to and work on making a turkey stock the next day.

I have come to completely rely on the stock I have made rather than buying soup broths or stocks. It is really easy to do.
If you have a crock pot, I highly recommend using it, because it couldn't be any simpler. Just put the carcass and some veggies in the crock pot and cover it with water. Cook it on low all day. A crock pot will use less energy than putting it on the stove, and you don't have to watch it at all. After 8 or more hours, strain the fluid out and put in containers to freeze. You can use this stock later as a base for soups, gravy, or for your liquid when doing other crock pot cooking. Seriously since I started doing this, I never buy canned broth any more.

Now when it comes to the left over turkey there are many recipes you can try. My family loves to make turkey sandwiches, but even that can get old. For me a turkey sandwich tastes best the first day.
Here are some recipe links you might like to try.

Turkey and Mashed Potato Croquettes (here is a great way to use some leftover turkey and left over mashed potatoes). This recipe came from About.com from Diana Rattray

Stuffing Frittata (another great recipe which will give you a way to get some use out of that tasty leftover stuffing). I found this recipe at My Last Bite.

After Thanksgiving Turkey Salad recipe
. Why not enjoy something with a little nut and crunch? This recipe really looks tasty, and I picked it up at CDKitchen.

Turkey Tetrazzini II Kind of self explanatory here. Just another way to use up that yummy turkey. This came from All Recipes which has loads of amazing recipes you will want to check out.

Now for those people who may not have someone to share Thanksgiving with or who may not be able to afford the celebration, there are several communities offering a free Thanksgiving meal for their community. Here are some details:

Meet Me On Monday - 11/14

I have been pressed for time since my last Meet Me On Monday and have missed joining in the fun. It is awesome meeting all the bloggers that join in together at Meet Me On Monday which is hosted by the very lovely Java at Never Growing Old. It is pretty awesome learning more about each other, as well as learning that we all may be in different locales, many of us have quite a few things in common.

Aren't you interested in learning a little bit more about your fellow bloggers? Haven't you wanted to just share some silly little tidbits about yourself? Then come join the fun!

Questions:

1. Do you eat Sushi?
2. What kind of bath soap do you use?
3. How often do you talk to your Mom?
4. What TV shows do you watch on a regular basis?
5. Did you start Christmas shopping yet?

1 - Do you eat Sushi?

Photobucket

I do not eat sushi. I used to eat it. I ate it a lot.

Don't continue if you get easily icked out. Though I am not graphic the idea is clear.

One day a bunch of my friends and I went to a mall and ate sushi at one of the restaurants nearby. That night I had the most horrific case of food poisoning. See, I worked the graveyard shift at a casino. This shift started at 2:00 am. At about 3:00 am I began to feel nauseous. At first I thought it was just in my head. Several moments later, I decided not to take a chance and requested that my boss let me go home. On the way up to our locker room, I passed a guy with the STRONGEST COLOGNE. It was all it took to send me over the edge. I barely made it to the locker room and I literally lost it in several garbage cans once there. I felt so bad about that, but I had no control.

This is horrid, but I literally drove home with a huge Victoria's Secret shopping bag strap around my neck and the bag in my lap (bought a pile of VS stuff when we went shopping after eating). I kept that thing around my neck all the way home, and I was a good hour's drive away from home). I was literally a mess for three days.

I know that I could try it again, but I can't get the thought out of my head. The association is too strong which rots because I LOVED shushi up until then.

2. What kind of bath soap do you use?

I am a Bath & Body Works fan and a fan of Neutrogena. I always use some form of liquid bath soap in the shower with one of those puffy things. I also am fond of the handmade soaps you can buy at craft stores. There was a store I totally was crazy about in New Hampshire called Zeb's General Store (in fact they are online now too, but it isn't the same as walking about). They had the best handmade soaps!

3. How often do you talk to your mom.

Photobucket

Pic of my mom taken back in 1961 (six years before I hit the scene).

We talk about once every two weeks and sometimes more. It really depends on what is going on. Last week I was in California and my niece and I talked with my mom for about 2 hours by using the speaker phone on my nieces cell phone. It was like a mini slumber party. :)

4. What TV shows do you watch on a regular basis?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Truly I like a lot of different programs. Not one program explains or describes who I am. I just like a lot of different things. :) In some ways I am a ghoul. I love true crime tv, zombies, and weird comedies. I also love stuff like Little House On The Prairie reruns. I cannot even list them all I watch here. Friday Night Lights is a fave and I am really going to hate seeing it go. It is on Direct TV right now before it goes back to network for its final season. I'm bummed.

5. Did you start Christmas shopping yet.

Photobucket

Yes but just barely. I really need to kick in in gear. I don't fret though. I get most of my stuff from Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and random shopping that goes on throughout the year. I put a lot of things in a box when I get a good deal.

Just A Minute

Photobucket

Quick little catch up.

In a few short minutes, I am going to share a little bit about the past week. This is my blog blitz which I am doing because work and life has been pretty hectic.

WORK

Work has been crazy because we just had a pledge drive which translated into 12 to 14 hour work days. Not horrible for the most part, but a little draining. It is a lot of fun because we get to visit with our volunteers and some we haven't seen since the prior pledge drive. It is a little on the rough side because I spend a significant time on air and it is all impromptu and seat-of-your pants work. The best part is getting to speak to donors. There is something really cool about hearing the impact our station has had on their lives.

HEALTH

Following our pledge drive I had a drive to California to see my endocrinologist. On the way I listened to the audio book "Innocent" by Scott Turow. I haven't finished it yet, but it was a welcome diversion for the very long drive from Arizona to Glendora, California.

Meeting with the doc was great because things went very well. When we measured my neck I found out that since I have been seeing doctor Catz (since June or July) my neck has gone down 3/4 of an inch. That means my thyroid is going down! Yay!!!!!

I am slowly on the road to recovery and couldn't be any happier. I look forward to the day when I no longer have to stress over the bad side effects of being hypothyroid. What are they? Weight gain, depression, malaise, total exhaustion without any reason other than the thyroid, dry skin, thinning hair, and the list goes on and on.

LIFE

The best part of everything was coming home once to my family, and snuggling in bed with my husband (after a long shower to wash the road off). I HATE not sleeping with him. I never sleep well, and I just miss him terribly. Unfortunately I see the endocrinologist more often than my husband has days off.

Well that is my minute for now. Nothing quippy and cute, but no time for that. I hope to settle in for a good post tomorrow. :)

Happy Saturday!!!!!

Please Pray

Have you been touched by tough times? Are you learning to become more frugal in order to better make ends meet? Is it harder to save money so you are learning how to do without some extras? I know I have. I have been doing this for many years. I was a single mom for 12 years, so I learned how to save and how to live beneath my means. There were times where I washed and reused baggies, coffee filters, and truly every blanket (we used many as our apartment had only one heater in the living room), utensil, plate, and piece of cookware came from a second hand store.

Still those times were nothing compared to the poverty in so many other areas. Places where people have to walk miles for water. Where they get second hand clothes as well, but their shirts tout Superbowl players who didn't win the big game. Physical and mental strength are vital in places like these. Most vital is the prayers and generosity of others. Even now in our personal financial lows (me personally) it is more important and necessary than ever to give. Even if that gift is prayer. That is what I am asking for today. :)

My station, Radio Shine, has a team in Guatemala on a mission trip with Food for the Hungry. If you have a moment today, please pray for the lovely children, our team, and for the ministry of Food for the Hungry. If you are interested in taking a glance at what is up, they have a blog of their trip here: Radio Shine Food for the Hungry Guatemala Team Blog

Here is the Shine4Kids team before they left for their journey.

These young girls are just two of the lovely children that are sponsored through the Food for the Hungry ministry.

Patrick and Heather Eddolls of Covenent 31 lead worship.

Here is a little bit about Food for the Hungry:

Food for the Hungry is a non-profit relief and development organization. We've been transforming lives one at a time since 1971. Be change.

Our Mission: To walk with churches, leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation.

Vision: "God called and we responded until physical and spiritual hungers ended worldwide."

Thanks for stopping by. Please pray for our team and again the ministry of Food for the Hungry and the many communities they touch. And hey, if you could stop by and offer them some words of encouragement, that would be such a blessing to them!

Thanks!!!!
